I think we were too focused on the end goal to see the spike traps in front of us.

There was definitely corruption, yes, but we have some fault as well. We focused too much on what can’t happen rather than what shouldn’t happen. There is a difference. We thought that the nation couldn’t let a felon run for president and especially not let him win. I think we believed too much that democracy would withstand hatred and bigotry, forgetting that democracy isn’t the steel wall but the thing that should be protected.

Democracy is fought for, not freely given. We should have known this from history. The white men in power didn’t just decide one day to stop enslaving Black people. (Unless you’re the Mormon Church, maybe.) There were centuries of abolitionist movements. Women were not given the right to vote, they fought for it.

I believe we got spoiled from the idea of democracy being a constitutional right. But what is a document to a wannabe junta of Trump loyalists? They gave him immunity. Despite all his many crimes and his threats against the system, they gave him immunity. These six Grim Reapers that we didn’t even vote for democratically get to make all the rules and we’re still surprised.

Why should we play by the rules of a lawless game? Is it really a point of pride to keep obeying laws when the other side has flagrantly violated them? Biden and Harris are cowards. They’re playing into the delusion that Trump can’t be that bad. They actually have adequate reason to oppose this election and not certify the results! What better reason is Trump being a felon and guilty of sedition?!

If you’re wondering what the fuck happened to America…we stopped heeding the warnings, believing grace and decorum would save us. We were blinded by 2020’s victory and believed that things were improving. We’re forgetting the background events. Republican Congresspeople and House Representatives were refusing to vote in favor of quality-of-life bills. States were passing more and more crippling legislation to police women’s bodies and endanger trans children. Gun violence persisted and Republicans wore 2A pins, saying quite plainly that they prefer having guns over protecting your children’s lives.

It’s time to stop fighting with kids’ gloves. They and their fanbase want us dead. Don’t lie down in the ditch for them. Signing off.
