009 - Lyrical Forensics

I’ve been taking a magnifying glass to some old songs by certain artists who might be implicated in the whole Diddy fiasco. I know artists have songs full of illegal things, but putting them in a song doesn’t make them a confession. Well, unless you’re Fetty Wap, rapping about cooking cocaine and getting arrested for - guess what - drug possession.

I was listening to gangsta rap at 10-years-old. Picture it, a chubby white girl at a Christian school listening to songs about sex parties at Holiday Inns. My racist father tried to dissuade me against such “corrupting influences”, often coming into my room to switch my TV off the BET channel. The thing is, he was perfectly fine with watching country music videos with half-naked white women. No no no, it’s only Black half-naked women that are bad, you see? Even at that young, I never understood his racism or the racist lessons taught by the Christian school. Yeah, sure. Jesus was a white man who was born in the Middle East. And he died nailed to a plank of wood and died for all sins…except homosexuality and premarital sex. I’m getting off-topic. Was there a topic?

Oh, yes. Lyrics. Here’s an interesting verse from Usher’s “Lil Freak” featuring Nicki Minaj. This is from her verse:

Excuse me, little mama, but you could say I'm on duty
I'm lookin' for a cutie, a real big ol' ghetto booty
I really like your kitty cat, and if you let me touch her
I know you're not a bluffer, I'll take you to go see Usher

I keep a couple h---, like Santa, I keep a vixen
Got that Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Dixon, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen

Now…sex work is work and I’m not against it, but there is a…pattern, if you will. If you recall from Surviving R. Kelly, many of Kelly’s personal bodyguards and his victims would talk about how he would round up girls. And I mean girls. Teenage, under-18 girls. He would basically go to malls and even his old high school (like what the fuck?) to find these young women.

Diddy’s lawsuits against him indicate a similar behavior, of people who are sent out to procure young women and sex workers. So, is it too much of a stretch to assume that Nicki Minaj and Usher were up to some procurement as well? Basically, Nicki is asking “hey, if you let me touch your pussy, I’ll take you to see Usher.” Sounds kind of coercive. Hell, the whole song does. The song is called “Lil Freak”, after all. The dirty version of the song’s chorus goes:

If ya fuckin with me, really fuckin with me,

You let her stick her hands in your pants, be my little freak…

I personally believe that this is not asking for consent. This is basically saying, “hey, if you want to hang with me, you have to let another girl fondle you.” Again, if all parties are willing, that’s fine, but still…it sounds off in retrospect. Especially when we get to the end of her verse.

If I'm in your city, I'm signin' them tig-ole-bitties
I'm plottin' on how I can take Cassie away from Diddy
The girls want a Minaj, yeah, they wetter than a rainman
Usher, buzz me in, everybody loves Raymond

The line could be read as her wanting to protect Cassie, but I think it’s a little more sinister than that, because what is the song about?

It should be noted that Nicki Minaj still keeps in contact with a brother who is in prison for child rape. Personally, if I had a brother that was into that deviant shit, I’d never speak to him again. But Minaj has written letters of support for a lighter sentence and that is worrying.

Now to examine some of Diddy’s lyrics, which are…illuminating. Like this spoken intro from “I Want the Love” featuring Meek Mill.

I hate funerals, I love life. I hate when I see a whole bunch of people just crying in a funeral on some fake shit. They ain’t really love a n**** while they was there. See I’m a different type of n****, I wanna be honest with y'all. I need the love now, if y’all motherfuckers gonna be crying and playing thirty minute specials when I’m gone (an hour special that I’m gone) fuck that, love me while I’m here. Love me while I’m here, I had to tell a bitch.

Nobody loving you now, are they, Pest Diddler? Also, way to disrespect people for grieving a lost loved one. I know you don’t have a heart because you probably lubed it up too much and shit it out. You are freaky like that, aren’t you?

Here’s another suspect lyric in “Let’s Get It”:

[P-Diddy]
Aiyyo, call me Diddy, I run this city
Send the cops, the D.A. and feds to come get me
Cats wanna leave me for dead you comin with me
Gettin head in the Bentley red at one fifty

Well, that was fucking clandestine, wasn’t it? For someone claiming their innocence in this whole matter, he sure didn’t hold back during these songs. Like in “I Need a Girl”:

I had a girl that would've died for me
Didn't appreciate her so I made her cry for me
Every night she had tears in her eyes for me
Caught a case, shorty took the whole ride for me
At first we were friends then became lovers
You was more than my girl, we was like brothers
All night we would play fight under covers
Now you gone, can't love you like I really want to (just gone, gone, gone, gone)
But every time I think about your pretty smile
And how we used to drive the whole city wild (oh, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Damn, I wish you would've had my child
A pretty little girl with Diddy's style, shit is wild

Black man making horrified face

What the fuck did Pedophile Dudley do to his brothers?!?

Also, if you have watched the video of Diddy showing off his kids, you’ll know Diddy shouldn’t be allowed near kids at all because he talks about adopting a “little white girl off the streets” like he took in a stray dog.

But the most scathing diss to Diddy has been Eminem’s on his new single, “Fuel”.

I'm like a R-A-P-E-R (yeah)
Got so many S-As (S-As), S-As (huh)
Wait, he didn't just spell the word, "Rapper" and leave out a P, did he? (Yep)
R.I.P., rest in peace, Biggie
And Pac, both of y'all should be living (yep)
But I ain't tryna beef with him (nope)
'Cause he might put a hit on me like , "Keefe D, get him"

Goddamn. Mentioning the sexual assault AND Diddy’s alleged ties to Tupac’s and Biggie Smalls’ deaths. Plus, that word play is chef’s kiss!

Executive dysfunction’s kicking in, better stop while I’m ahead. Signing off.
